Reading that follows the student home
myON provides personalized digital reading experiences to every elementary student in Harlem CSD 5. Students can develop literacy skills both in classrooms and at home, with titles matched to interest and reading level and read-aloud audio available throughout.
The platform's data reports let teachers align reading progress with curriculum needs, and family access extends reading routines beyond the school day — a direct strategy against the summer slide.

Professional learning
A series built to compound
Educators and families engaged in a sustained professional learning series centered on maximizing the use of myON. Sessions were structured to build capacity step by step — beginning with basic navigation of the reader and advancing toward instructional integration through assignments, scaffolds, and data reports.
Navigate
The myON digital library and its reading scaffolds — how to find, assign, and support the right book for each reader.
Integrate
Assignments and assessments woven into daily instruction rather than bolted onto it.
Analyze
Using data reports to align reading progress with curriculum needs and to spot students who need a nudge.
Engage families
Promoting at-home reading routines so the platform works evenings and weekends too.
Prevent summer slide
Strategies for continuous reading across breaks, when access usually drops off hardest.
Blended format
Each agenda blended demonstration, guided exploration, and hands-on practice time.
The series highlighted not only technical proficiency but also instructional best practices and family partnerships, with the goal of cultivating a community of readers across District 5.
